Encounter's 21st Birthday

It all began 21 years ago with a group of Christian teachers who had been meeting to pray for their schools for a while. Together they decided to step out in faith and create a job for someone to go into schools and help the Christian pupils and staff.

There have been many incarnations of the work since then. The first years were very much about supporting Christian Unions and the teachers who ran them. More recently we have been challenged by the changes in society seen in our schools and are coming up with new ideas to achieve our aim. We ‘encounter' several thousand students every year.

Encounter exists to ensure that no under 18 year old in Eastbourne and Seaford lacks the opportunity to hear the gospel in a clear relevant and personal way. In a world where there is very little basic knowledge of the Christian Faith and children are becoming more isolated from each other, we are increasingly aware of the need for the work we do.
