Chaplaincy Launch The strains of ‘Amazing Grace' echoed down the halls of Langney Shopping Centre at the launch of the Centre's chaplaincy project. Six local churches, working together, have gathered a team of volunteers to be present in the Centre three mornings a week. The emphasis is on listening to people and being available to pray. Centre Manager, Barry Reece, welcomed the initiative. He said: "The Centre is effectively the village square. We have lost the art of conversation and many find the chaplaincy meets their needs". Local vicar, David Ashton, remarked that people contacted at the Centre were now more confident in coming back to church. Bishop Wallace Benn spoke about how people look to shopping to meet their needs, but quoted Jesus ,who said: "Man shall not live by bread alone". Project organiser, Rob Watson, elder at Langney Community Church, prayed blessing on the shops in the Centre and on the chaplaincy volunteers.
